tach stuck at 7000

tach stuck at 7000

pulled engine last winter,dropped new one in with a new dist cap. its a standard hei..anyways i noticed the tach reads 7000.turning key on or off has no efect.if i crank it nothing. i havent started the engine yet..any ideas?im stuck...also everything the same as before i yanked engine.is it possible the tach just went bad?

do you have the tach wire plugged in? Is it plugged into the right terminal?

white wire plugged into "tach" terminal on dizzy...pulled the gauge,theres switched power coming into the back side of the gauge/ciruit board/cluster
