Hatch electrical problem

I recently had a problem with my hatch pull down assembly not working, and I got a replacement one. Now, my hatch won't pull itself down or push itself up. If I run 12V / GND to the assembly, it works, and all of the wiring immediately on it is working correctly (hot at all times is hot at all times, etc.) I was wondering if the contact that the hatch hits when closing is supposed to have one wire hot at all times? There's two wires, and neither one has power. The hatch release button opens the hatch, and like I mentioned, I can raise/lower the assembly if I apply voltage directly to the motor contacts. When I close it and it hits that contact, nothing happens. Any ideas on what to look at?
Thanks

hELLO I AM HAVING A SIMILAR PROBLEM WITH MY 87Z -MY HATCH MOTOR WONT RISE BACK UP - AND NOW I CANNOT LATCH THE HATCH BECAUSE THE UNIT WONT CATCH AND LOCK - - HOW DID YOU KNOW WHAT WIRES TO RUN 12V / GROUND TO? WHICH COLOR WIRES MADE THE HATCH ASSEMBLY RISE? I JUST WANT MY HATCH TO LATCH! AS IT IS NOW I HAVE HAD TO PUT A 50LB BAG OF SAND ON THE HATCH JUST TO KEEP IT CLOSED. THANKS!

Re: Hatch electrical problem

You should have +12v on terminal B at all times (supposed to be a red/white wire). If not, check the Lid Fuse and red/white wire and connector for opens. If you have a constant 12v the problem could be the unit case ground. Clean and tighten the connection. Otherwise it's likely the striker switch.

On the actual motor itself [sits sideways towards the bottom of the assembly] there are two very small contacts [1mm x 1mm] that are exposed but difficult to see...roughly top passenger side of the motor. If you touch them with 12V on one and GND the other, the assembly will rise - reverse the polarity and it will fall. I closed my lid, then made the motor pull down til it was tightly shut. Hope this helps; if not, I can try giving better instructions possibly with pictures. You should be able to see the motor contacts when looking at the assembly, from inside the hatch, looking down and into where the motor sits on the passenger side.
