Tail light Wiring

I have an 89 firebird and was wanting to do something different with my tail lights. All 4 lights light up when you turn the parking lights on and only 2 light up brighter when you hit the brakes. I am wanting all 4 to light up when I hit the brakes. Has anyone done this and how did they do it. I think I will need to switch out some connectors so the other 2 lights have the dual fillament bulbs instead of the single fillament. If I am on the right track please let me know. I believe that the 2 bulbs that light up with the brakes are 2057 bulbs and the other 2 are the 194's I think. I know they are different than the other 2. If anyone can help me with this I would greatly appreciate it.

Re: Tail light Wiring

This is all I got, from my 87' service manual. It may not be correct because yours is an 89'. but it might help.

Re: Tail light Wiring

i have a 88 firebird and i converted them to the 82 style wiring. what i did i get the taillight harness from a 82-84 trans am. and under the steering column on the brake light switch, you have to cut the brake wire and tap it into the white wire on the ignition harnes(the one on the end). let find the link to wiring instructions. but its fairly easy. once you got the 82 harness the only modification you have to do is under the steering column and your taillight will function like the 82-84 trans am. 6 parking lamps, braking and turn signals 2 inside lamps on each side. but i then added sequentials once i did the wiring coversion.

let find that link for you

Re: Tail light Wiring

hey gambit,

here's the link
http://www.austinthirdgen.org/index.php?pid=37

it is easier if you find the taillight harness from and 82-84 trans am or gta.
no modication is needed. just swap the harnesses, then your can use trans am or gta taillights.

hope this helps,
alex

Re: Tail light Wiring

ok so by googling "austin third gen wiring pid=37" you can actually find the link nknight was referring to, then in the preview click "Cached" to get a copy out of google's cache - since AustinTGO seems to be down now..

Anyways, i was actually looking for a description on how to make these awesome sequential turn signals?? Might be better messaging nknight tho to not hijack this thread.. sorry
