Gauge or Sending Unit?
Ok guys how can you tell if your Fuel sending unit is bad or just your gas gauge? My gauge reads FULL and i was wondering if the sending unit IS bad would the gauge be reading full or empty?
Re: Gauge or Sending Unit?
I had the same problem...is there a ringing in the back of the car, could be the fuel pump going bad, happened to me, so I replaced it and now everything works. When your gas gauge doesnt work most people would assume it is your sending unit, which would be a little expensive being that you gotta drop the fuel tank. It could also just be your fuel sensors. I would start at the cluster to make sure everything is plugged in.

Re: Gauge or Sending Unit?
Find the fuel gauge wire and ground it (with the key on). If the gauge drops to Empty, it'd appear to be working and you might have a broken/disconnected wire anywhere between the instrument cluster and the gastank.
If you have access to some resistors, you can disconnect the wire at the fuel tank (connector C313 - look it up) and test the gauge by putting different resistances on the fuel sender wire (against ground). Test a few resistance values, from 90 Ohms for full tank down to almost 0 Ohms for empty tank.
Hope this helps.

Re: Gauge or Sending Unit?
Please do not spread misinformation, it does not help anybody.
The fuel gauge goes to full when disconnected and then to empty when grounded.
Hope this helps.
