Electrical Guru's step inside simple question
Electrical Guru's step inside simple question
I am kind of looking for a possible electrical problem that may be interfering with my fuel pump and thus effecting fuel pressure.
I have done the following can someone confirm if this is normal.
I am using a multimeter and set it to buzzer
1. With doors closed and no lights on etc.. If I check my grounds I get a reading of around .01 to .05 ohm. This is on every single ground I can find under the hood.
2.With door left open so interior light is on I do the same test and now the readings are around 35ohm on all grounds except for the main battery from negative to alternator cable. There it is around 1ohm.
3. With headlights ON I do the same test and now the readings are over 100ohm on grounds.
So my question is this normal behavior?

Resistance measurements on a powered circuit are meaningless.
Re: Electrical Guru's step inside simple question
Okay so basically if the ground is all good with no circuit running and everything off then all is good.
One of the reasons I asked is every time I turn on headlights my fuel pressure drops by 3-4psi according to my digital gauge inside the car.

Check your pressure with a real gauge.

im not an electrician but it sounds like your fuel pressure guage is run by electricity and when your lights turn on it takes voltage away. hence dropping unless it stays down then i dont know.

Well I'm sure they're pretty.
Before you start worrying about something as insignificant as 3-4 PSI, make sure you're seeing something real.

Re: Electrical Guru's step inside simple question
well if it makes anyone feel any better mine goes from 60 to 0 whenever it feels neccesary other wise its at 30
Re: Electrical Guru's step inside simple question
Well at the moment 3-4psi is a lot for me when I am down already 6-8 from normal.
I'll get a hand held gauge to check it out. I would be shocked if the gauge is the problem.
