91 RS Electrical Problems
I reciently purchased a 91 RS that has electrical problems. I discovered there are many wires just hanging in the engine compartment, some even taped off.
In order to turn on the low beam headlights you have to pull the light switch all the way out to highbeam. If you pull it out half way on the lowbeam setting, you get nothing at all.
I installed new highbeam lights because the existing ones looked old and I wasn't sure if they worked at all. I still have this same problem and the actual highbeams still don't come on.
The horn also doesn't work. I'm not sure if this vehicle was equipped with an air bag or not. The steering wheel looks pretty warped and looks like the center has been pulled off before, but I'm not sure. (All fuses look good)
When I use the turn signals the whole dash flickers. Sometimes one of the turn signals in the instrument panel stays lit, sometimes its off.
Any suggestions on how to fix these problems???

Re: 91 RS Electrical Problems
something sounds wrong there..been awhile since I had my lights on though, but if I remember correctly, the light switch only controls the low beams; the high beams are controlled by the turn signal stalk. Yep, just checked the owners manual I had laying under my desk.. "To turn headlights from low beam to high beam, pull the turn signal lever all the way toward you. Then realease it" Pulling the light sitch all the way out should not be turning the high beams on, only the low beams.

But when I pull the switch all the way out to turn on the low beams, the blue light in the dash that indicates highbeam comes on. Thanks for the reply.

Re: 91 RS Electrical Problems
did you try turning the high beams off, ie pulling the turn signal stalk toward you again? If the high beams are already on, when you pull the headlight ****..the blue light will come on. Not trying to insult your intelligence, just making sure all the possibilities have been checked. Don't know how many times I've seen or heard the "this thing won't turn on"..well is it plugged in" bit.

Yep, I tried pulling the turn signal stalk and nothing. Signals work, but when you use those the whole cluster flickers. I figure some wiring must be crossed or something. I don't know a whole lot about this stuff if you haven't already noticed. Thanks for the reply.
