Hows it going? I'm thinking of purchasing a rebuilt '89 GTA 350 TPI engine harness off a member of this board but before I do, I'd like some clarification to see its an actual '89 GTA harness and not an '88 GTA harness like the one I ended up purchasing for my car; should of did some research 1st before I did that ! Anyway I'm having doubts about it bieng an '89 harness because there appear to be cold start injector connectors present (I could be wrong ) which only came on harnesses prior to '89. Not to mention the oil pressure switch connector for an '88 GTA has 3 wires coming out where as the '89 harness only has 2. Heres the pic guys and I greatly appreciate any input given.

Well that picture is mighty detailed. I'd say its a harness all right. Whether its an 89 GTA harness is impossible to tell from the picture.

You need a WAY better picture than that to answer your question.

 

I've attached a much larger version of the same pic which shows the connectors a bit more in detail. When you click on the pic, it appears in normal size in a different window but just rest your mouse pointer on the image for a few seconds until the stretch icon appears out on the lower right corner of the image and click on it to blow it up. Since I'm on the subject, another guy off the boards here offered me a harness for a good deal and I've e-mailed him questioning if it has the cold start injectors; his reply was yes so that must mean its a TPI engine harness prior to '89 correct? Hope the blown pic helps a bit. Thanks again for the info.

Exactly! For some reason, alot of people think that a L98 TPI engine harness from an '88 GTA (and previous years) will plug directly without any modifications into '89 and later GTAs with the L98 which is not true do the elimination of the cold start valve after '88. Both sellers I mentioned in my previous post, claim to be selling '89 GTA harnesses but I have e-mailed both asking if they have the cold start injectors and surprisingly, they both do! One of the sellers tried proving me wrong; heres the complete message:

(Me) Well I have an '89 GTA and if your harness has the cold start injectors, it won't plug directly into my car just like the last harness I purchased from you (not your fault) due to the fact that the cold start was eliminated from 1989 and on. Cold start came on cars from 1988 and before and I don't want to go through the hassle again of getting it cut up and rewired to fit my car.

(The seller) not true, my 88 iroc does not have cold start and has vats another 89 gta harness that i purchessed has cold start and vats its not the years of the car its the time car was made during the year.

It looks like the guy just wants to sell me the harness either way huh?? Let me know what you think. Thanks again guys.
