Re: vss
yeah, you will need a new harness if you're going from TBI to TPI.
I don't know what happened to your car but,88 IROCS didn't come with TBI.
If you're going with a speed density tpi,I have an old eng. harness here for $50 but, you'll also need a new ecm and yeah, that auto. vss won't work.

Your car has a cable driven speedometer. The VSS feed comes from the back of the speedometer.
More info needed. What year TPI setup/harness are you using and what car is it from?

Re: vss
If it's a MAF set up you are using, then you are all set. You don't have to do anything with your transmission. You already have the correct mechanical speedo drive on your T5 connected to your speedometer. The VSS is the optical style, on the back of the speedo, and is wired into the connector near where the ECM is mounted.
There is no VSS connection on the transmission for a Camaro before 1990. If you have a VSS connection on the harness for the transmission, then the harness came from a Firebird.

Re: vss
well here's the ECM #1227165 that came off with the whole setup wiring harness and tpi setup. another thing I noticed that the wires that get connected to the heater unit are not there.

Re: vss
Yup that's a MAF ECM. As for heater wires, they aren't related to the computer harness in any way, you shouldn't have to touch them.
If you don't already, I would highly suggest getting a factory service manual for the 1988 Camaro. It will have all the wiring diagrams you need to allow for rewiring and repinning as needed.

Re: vss
If you can post pics johnny,I can probably help you figure out how to get the hvac wiring re-installed if it doesn't exist on your new harness.
And yes to clarify for you, that ecm#1227165 is correct for a MAF setup.
If the memcal is for an automatic car you'll need to get one for a 5-spd car.
