Vasoline for corrosion protection on wiring???

I have my 1/0 ga ground from the battery in the truck to the frame rail under the exhaust hanger. I ground a nice clean place and attached everything nice and snug. However, since it is underneath the car I have slabbed vasoline all over the connection. Two years (any NO driving) have netted me a nice clean connection still but I wondered if there was any consequences to this??

I've been using Vaseline for years, i never came across a problem with it.

I use on vehicle lights and screw in light bulbs. makes getting them out alot easier.

Re: Vasoline for corrosion protection on wiring???

Its pertroleum based so it works. However its not the BEST solution...

Vaseline is made mainly for use on skin, so it needs to be on a porous item to work perfectly. Maybe the surface tension is too high, but it doesnt spread nice.... I use it on my skates after going on ice. But i notice, theres always like 1 or 2 very fine lines of rust where the vaseline didnt spread easily.

A better product is synthetic stuff. I dont know what its called, but its a Silicone, made for brake lubricant to stop squeaks. My shop teacher used it for all his rubber seals once a year to keep them looking like new, and its safe on plastic and electrical connections.

But hey, if the vaseline works for you, use it! It wont harm anything.

I use this stuff called nolox , electricians use it for aluminum connections to copper and nickle ( alcu ) , I can't tell any real difference between it and regular old vasoline other than it's darker and stinks .
