hid kit
can anybody recommend me a good hid kit? the only one i know of is the painless harness for the kit. im in severe need of changing my headlights they are horrible for both safety and looks.

I got new Sylvania Silverstar sealed beams because I live out of town...No road lights out here & deer crossing the road is BAD......
The visibility is amazing & WAY cheaper than HID lights. My 2 Pontiac Hi/Low lights were $20 each.
Then to top that off, I swapped out my stock H3 fog light bulbs for Sylvania Silverstar H3 bulbs....$40 for the pair.
I really don't see the point of spending the $$$ needed to go HID + the mounting & rewiring needed, when the Silverstars are a DIRECT plug-in.
The visibility is amazing & WAY cheaper than HID lights. My 2 Pontiac Hi/Low lights were $20 each.
Then to top that off, I swapped out my stock H3 fog light bulbs for Sylvania Silverstar H3 bulbs....$40 for the pair.
I really don't see the point of spending the $$$ needed to go HID + the mounting & rewiring needed, when the Silverstars are a DIRECT plug-in.

If you aren't comfortable with rewiring, get the Silverstars. They simply replace whats there & require NO modification at all.
I tried non-HID H4 bulbs in different headlight housings.....Whether it was a bad/low output of light H4 bulb, or a bad housing with low reflection/light output...I dunno. I just know they SUCKED. I'm sure if they had been true HID H4s, they woulda been better. But the price different between the direct drop-in Silverstars vs the cost of true HIDs? HIDs aren't worth it, IMHO.

HID kits are'nt really that expensive anymore, unless you condsider spending up to $150 expensive.Some HID kits are under $100 & are true P&P.No cutting/splicing,drilling,etc.The greatest advantage to HID isnt just the better light ouput, but the lower wattage required to run them, 35w Vs 55-65 for halogens & silverstars are still halogen lights & HIDs will illuminate with the intensity of an 85w bulb @ only 35w requirement.There is savings to taxing your electrical system with lower current draw.Like more power to your ingition, stereo, cooling fan & an easier life for your alternator.HIDs will also far oulast any halogen light.So there is some saving there as well.Plus you can transfer the kit to another car.Provided the next vehicle uses the same type of lamp.Dont get me wrong though i like silverstars & had them on my camaro, but the Xenarcs on now & the HID kits i installed on both my bikes are far better!

Im not positive, but i believe sylvania never made a 6054 style xenarc kit.Doubt it matters though.They stopped producing the xenarc system some years back.

Yes that Hella housing is correct for the 1982-1984 Trans am. I posted that same one in my post above.
I recommend you stay away from Chinese made H.I.D. Kits and I know from experience (I got screwed twice by bad Chinese made bulbs). Remember this you buy The EBay ones at to your own risk!! I recommend you go with American made or German made H.I.D. Kits they are a little pricey but well worth it.

I got E-codes for my Camaro on the same site, called first and the owner answered the phone, very informative, incredibly courteous, shipped fast. Chinese HID's suck, went through two $60 sets before I bought a quality H4 Bi-xenon german kit. Light output is incredible, and on Camaro's, all you have to do to connect the ballast wiring to the original is repin your original harness to be set-up for H-4 lighting. There is a write-up on here on how to do that as well.

I've been happy with my trublu ballasts for the past two years. They are very bright and last a long time. I only spent $150 on them and I did the install myself. I wish those would go back on sale, I buy more of them if I had the chance so I could put them on my other bird.

o have a thread and the website i bought my hids i should put the new pictures up but to lazy to... here is my link
and the hid set i used has the wireing kit needed.. all you need to do is change the pins around. i can give you what you need to change pin around but idk if it the same for firebirds/trans am has the fuse in line aswell just a plug and play.

I didn't purchase them online. I got them from a local electronics shop. He was selling them cheap because he had so many sets that weren't moving. I could get more sets for members on the board but shipping might be a bugger.

That site philipsxenon looks like a fake. Philips is a Dutch electronics brand and they do make HID systems (Philips/Osram originated the HID stuff in Mercs and Bimmers back in...oh 94 or so?) They only make OEM HID/Xenon products.

Sylvania did make a 6054 Xenarc (HID/halogen) kit and they are still available from a few vendors:

Not exactly sure how they define sealed beam, but the housings do use an o-ring for the HID lamp.Along with a retaining clamps w/4 screws to hold the lamps secure.
Its not a permanent seal like sealed beam units, but it is sealed from the elements.

Do they say where they are made? Do they look like a quality product? Have you tested them to make sure they work? Do a thread when you install them.
