Headlight switch or headlight motor problem?
Just startd happening..
My 92 Firebird has the typical parking light/headlight switch on the dash. Well, when working normally, if you push the 'parking light' part of the switch, only the parking lights come on. But now when I push the same button, the parking lights DO come on, and the headlights will come up, but are not illuminated.
The headights will illuminate when I push the headlight part of the switch. But why are the headlamp motors engaging when I only want the parking lights on?
Thanks for any help..

Re: Headlight switch or headlight motor problem?
The problem is with the hard gel inserts (aka bushings) inside the headlight actuator assembly. Replace them with my 209280 deluxe headlight repair kit and I guarantee the problem will be solved.

Wow....With a single post of the problem a retailer has the fix to SELL him.
I'd be more suspicious of the dash switch or the control box on the firewall being faulty & short circuiting inside. I had the same problem.....I swapped out the control box (since I had a good, known spare) & that fixed mine.

I'm sorry you don't believe me. Look under the customer reviews for the 209280 deluxe headlight repair kit. At least two customers posted a review and mentioned that the kit not only solved usual headlight problem of the motors continuing to run without raising or lowering, but also solved their problem of the headlight buckets rising if they turned on their parking lights:

Re: Headlight switch or headlight motor problem?
I never put any weight on customer reviews. How does one know what's real and what's been posted by the staff? And even then, not all customers are the brightest cookies in the crowd.
Anyway, electrically and logically (going by this diagram: http://www.austinthirdgen.org/mkport...dy_wiring.gif), it sounds like the headlight module might have an internal short.

Re: Headlight switch or headlight motor problem?
thanks for the reply's. I should say when the buckets go up and down, there is a ' humming ' sound for several seconds afterwards. I have never had a problem with the lights/buckets before this. I was just trying to get an idea before tearing everything apart.
By the way, Stephen, You have a really slick looking GTA.
