my 87 IROC rear hatch light doesn't work. I checked the bulb.. and the bulb looks fine. I replaced anyways and still the same problem. So I took apart the plastic in the rear hatch to check the wiring. I noticed there is a switch. I don't remember having this in my 92 RS I used to own. Is this the on/off switch? It seems loose where the slider just moves back and forth freely with no tension or click. Also what is this connector piece I see in the pic. I cannot figure out where it goes.

 

Have you tested for battery? Same for ground?

My 87 has the switch,
If the slider moves back and forth like that, if you replace
the switch will probably work.
Test the incoming line for voltage.

Don't know about the connector.

Where could I find a switch like this?

 

Might try Chevy but being that old don't think they
would carry it anymore.

Best bet would be Radio Shack and find something similar.
Or even a toggle back there.

I've seen lots of third gens in junk yards with that switch, im sure you'll find one there.

 

I will look into that. Hopefully that will solve my problem as the other forum member has stated.
