Ignition issues

...Alright, I'm not sure if this is the proper board to post this on but I was curious to know if the ignition system (ignition lock cylinder with security chip, ignition switch located on steering column, and stater) has anything to do with the computer. I ask this because the 90RS I bought had an engine swap in it and the previous owner poorly rigged up a toggle switch start. By toggling the switch the engine cranks but doesn't start unless the key is in and is in the "on" position. However, the car doesn't crank with the key alone. I want to change it back to starting the car with just the key, but the engine that is in the car doesn't use the computer (1985 engine). Just wanted to know if the ignition system is run through the computer and if there is anyway I can revert it back to using only the key without a nightmare of a wiring project.... any help would be great

Yes VATS circuitry is contained in the comp.

You seem to be saying the comp is disconnected or removed.

It sounds like the connection from the START position on the lock cylinder is broken.

Restore that connection.

Having the starter now connected to the toggle will make it easy for you to find the connection.

Alright I'll look into it when I pull the engine for the rebuild in a couple weeks. And yes the computer is disconnected. Or at the very least it's not being used. The 1985 350 that is now in the car did not come from a vehicle run from a computer so that was why I was curious if I could still revert back to just using the key.
