need help installing ford solinoid

I have a Sumitt remote solinoid.

Need help with the wiring.

1991 Trans Am.

I have all the fusable links and battery cable to one large terminal.

Test light shows no power to the opposite large terminal.

I have a purple wire that used to go to GM solinoid.

Do I put this on small terminal close to other cables or opposite side?

Now I have a mini starter and solinoid. What do I run to it?

Battery cable from ford(summit) solinoid. And How do I activate the mini solinoid? Run wire from ford solinoid or jump the solinoid to battery power to starter?

Thanks,

Sean

Re: need help installing ford solinoid

Thanks.

Weird. Three different people from Sumitt couldn't tell me how to do it. The instructions are vague.

Another thing, one guy asked why I was using this on a car with a mini started saying it was unnecessary for hot start problems. Said I shouldn't have hot start problmes with a mini starter. Anyone ever hear this?

The car starts fine cold, but once I get it hot and shut it off. Turn the key and nothing. Wait about 30 minutes and fine.

Re: need help installing ford solinoid

Might just have to much initial timing. I used this kit on my stock 400 starter, when i was having heat soak problems. And it worked great after the install never had a heat soak problem.

If it turns over but slowly then it might to much initial timing. But if there is nothing its heat soak or maybe the starter is on its way out. Weak battery or bad ground.

So many things with these computer controled cars can give headaches.

New engine, new starter, new battery......

Timing is controlled by the chip which is custom. Car is supercharged with lots of mods.

Runs perfect and starts fine cold.

Headers are wrapped.

Figure I am getting too much resistance in the wires so I hope the remote solenoid works.

Re: need help installing ford solinoid

Sounds like a fun ride you have, hopefuly the soleniod will solve the problem.

When its hot and doesnt want to start, does the starter engage the flywheel at all? When it was a heatsoaked soleniod on my car, it wouldnt do anything till it cooled down.

When i had to much initial with my 400 it would turn real slow when it was hot. Had alot of compression, i think i had 12* in the chip and at the distributor. Set them back to stock 6* and it started with no problems.

Does nothing at all.

You can see my mods on other posts. Look up my user name.

Is there a fuse for the ignition (cranking) system. I think I may have blew it?

Re: need help installing ford solinoid

OK

I routed all the wiring per this attached link.

http://www.maliburacing.com/starter_solenoid.html

With the key off I have constant power to the starter wire and s terminal.

Obviously something is not right?

Should I reverse the wiring. Nothing is labeled on the solenoid so just guessing.

Re: need help installing ford solinoid

I got it wired up so now I get the ford solenoid to activate power to the starter side terminal.

I have the GM starter with power and have the short to the s terminal.

When I turn the key I hear the ford solenoid click, but nothing happens with the GM.

Any suggestions?

Re: need help installing ford solinoid

I got it all fixed now.

I am attaching a photo to show the Correct wiring for the solenoid.

Hopefully this will help others in the future.

Burned up a starter by puting the power to the wrong terminal side.

Instructions said just choose one.

So much for instructions!!!!

I would like to thank Mark at http://www.madelectrical.com/
for checking my final setup and teaching my the reasons behind the need for a remote solenoid.

Check out their web site and contact Mark for electrical help. He is very knowledgable.
