Broken Headlight Switch

So I guess when I pulled out the headlight **** the other day to take apart my dash I must have broken something. I can push it all the way in but it wont lock, so I can pull it all the way out. Can't turn my headlights on at all. Is the switch busted or is this something that might be fixed? This sucks because my HID's should be here this week, haha. I found the switch and can kind of get to it from under the dash. If I do have to replace that switch does anyone know of a better way to get at it besides removing the entire dash?

their is a pin with a spring around it. see if you can mess with that to get it to lock back in. You should have pushed it in to get the rod out. bet its broken. had to have pulled it out real hard. I have to pull it out hard even when i push the pin in.

Re: Broken Headlight Switch

shoot. I was afraid I busted it. I just pulled real hard. oh well, ordered a new one from autozone FOR $20. had a buddy look on all-data for me. to replace the switch you just pull of the gauge panel trim, unscrew a retainging nut and then you can pull the switch out from the bottom of the dash and unplug it. Just incase anyone searching later has this problem

I pulled one out of a junk yard car a couple of months ago. It was too hard to get it out unless the rod was removed.

Hello! I need to replace the Headlight switch as well and I'm having trouble getting to the switch. I have the **** off but cannot seem to get the dash apart to get to it... do I have to take the front dash off or do I go in from below???
Thank You for any Help you can share! Tom

Its a huge pain to change this switch, & yes the best way is going threw the bottom. Its a job that never gets easy no matter how many times you do it. I wanted to get to mine the other day. Wanted to get a hammer. Stupid switch. If you have a 90-92 then try taking the gauge cluster out of the way. Mine is an 89 so it has the mechanical speedo. That job is just as bad, as the switch.
