Is this horn switch missing a part?? (pictures)

Just picked up my first 3rd gen today..well..technically yesterday. I'm trying to address the things I need to pass inspection. One thing is the horn. BTW, its an 89 RS 305 TBI.

I'm guessing that any one of the 4 corners of the copper rectangle need to contact to complete the circuit but it seems like there should be something underneath that copper part that extends down into the steering wheel near the wheel nut, but there is only a threaded hole under it.

Here I have the copper part pulled up so you can see the hole underneath better.

Am I missing any parts to make the horn work or do I just need to start troubleshooting the rest of the wiring?

Yeah I'm missing the same thing, I think it's a pin that goes through the center of the spring... Anyone have a part number for us?

Finally got off my duff and figured this all out, here's the link that solves all. (5 years later)

Don't know a part number but you are missing the contactor that clips in there. Maybe a JY could help. It's possible though that the tang on the piece you have remaining (with the spring inside) is broken and that's why you're missing the contact pin. It pushes in against the spring then twists a 1/4 turn to lock into place...or maybe I'm thinking about the pontiac horn?

Either way I'd go to a JY with a puller and bring back both pieces. The one mounted in the wheel and the contactor you're missing.

Here is the part you are missing. You should be able to find more of these on Ebay (usually for around ten bucks)! If this one is already gone just do a search for "Camaro Horn".

I'm probably going to replace the wheel with a Grant wheel. If I do that, do I still need this part to work with the horn button on the new wheel?

Yeah, you will still need that part. The good news, however is that if you get the Grant installation kit, it should have one in there. I'm 99.9% sure my install kit came with one, but it's been over a year since I put it in.

That e-bay add says:

This is the OEM steering wheel horn wire for the camaros only. This is for the 3 spoke steering wheel with the round horn button.

So I don't think that's the one we're looking for...

Your right, I clicked on the wrong link for the wire. Here is the correct one for the SQUARE horn pad: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/82-92...Q5fAccessories

If you look at this one versus the previous one that I posted, the only difference is that the plastic retainer is approx 1/8" closer to the end on this one and you can just use a file to sand off some of the plastic to make it fit (that's what I did for my square Horn button since the Bone Yard that I went to only had the round horn pad steering wheels)
