Correct Alternator wiring

Correct Alternator wiring

Can anyone verify if this alternator wiring is right? See the pic. The alternator used the 3 wire pigtail so I have the +12 exciter wire going to the wire labeled in the picture, the black wire(cant really see it) is going to chassis ground, and the red wire is looped to the battery post. I ask since when I started the car and ran it the alternator was smoking lol. This is a used alternator so I dont know if its a bad alternator or my wiring. Ive never used the alternator before.

did a new alternator work??
cuz i don't think ur wiring is quite right

i'm having alternator trouble right now so let me know how urs turned out.
