12 V Switched?!?!?
Hey all,
I have some questions about the 12 V switched.
Where is the actually switch? is it the key cylinder? If so how can i remove the key cylinder to inspect and clean the 12 v switch contacts?
If the 12 v switched is not from the key cylinder then where does it come from..
BTW there is a switch with a metal rod going to it. The switch is locted under the dash and is mounted on the steering column, the rod is coming from inside the column, I have no idea what this is???
Any information will be greatly appreciated

What exactly are you trying to accomplish? A switched 12V source just means that that particular only has +12V going through it when the key is in the run, start, or ACC positions. It's not technically switched by the key as I believe the actual switch is mounted on the steering column towards the base of it. Up under the dash, its pretty hard to get to without dropping the column. The switch is sealed, there are no contacts to clean other than on the wire connector. IIRC, when you turn the key, it moves a rod up and down the length of the column which activates/deactivates the switch.

I just asked this the other day. If you are running something to a "switched 12 volt source", then you need to crimp that wire to a spade connector and plug it into the IGN or RADIO (I believe) outlet in your fuse box. I also believe that the BAT inputs are always on and IGN/RADIO only come on when you turn the key.

James C..your are correct it was the high beam...thanks
I need to look at 12 V switched switch because I believe this switch is going out or the contacts are dirty. it has to be some kind of relay then...
The problem is when have anything hooked up to switch source and I really don’t want to explain all the problems because I have been working on this for about 6 months, the problem is on the 12V switched ckt and it is very intermittent. I can see the 12V switched wires under the dash and I think your correct 92RS, I am going to drop the column to look at that relay/switch.

Sorry, I completely missed the question about the high-beam switch.
Let us know what you find with the switch on the column. I believe there are 3 connectors total on the bottom of the column. The long one on the passenger side is for your turn signals, horn, and wipers. Possibly cruise is on there too, I can't remember for sure. The ones you're looking for are on the top of the column.

ok, I lowered the column and found that switch/relay modules on the top of the steering column, I removed both connectors (black and blue) and noticed a rigid cable going from the rear of the switch/relay going under the carpet, I think is for the safety neutral switch. Anyways how do I remove the cable??

Update.
I finally got all the connectors removed and all the mounting hardware (three screws) not a easy job either. Now I have the neutral cable to remove and the medal rod that is mounted on the underside of switch/relay.
I help on how to remove both, I can figure it out!
Any comments and or suggestions will be greatly appreciated

I don't think that cable is for the neutral safety switch, but then I have a stick so my car wouldn't have one if that's what it is. I don't remember any cables on my column, or removing the metal rod for the high beams when I pulled my column out in December. I'll have to look at it when I get home tonight and see what I did. It's due to go back in shortly anyhow, so I guess tonight is as good a night as any.
