Only starts when it wants to.

So, I have had it stored away in my garage for the winter doing work on it (mechanical not electrical) and decided it was finally decent enough outside to bring her back out. Drove it around town for a couple hours running erands. I had started and stopped my car at least a dozen times. But I hopped in my car to go to work and NOTHING. No power, to anything, not even the door lights. Checked it out today and I got it to start. Then I shut it off and tried to start it again, nothing. Tried it again five minutes later and it started up great. I drove it around the block and parked it. Immediatly after I shut it off I tried to start it and nothing.

What is up with this? I tried to do a search for this on the site but didn't get anywhere. VATS, Ignition switch, cracked or broken wire(s)? I really am lost. I am using the battery that was in my corsica all winter and the bat worked fine in that.

Where do I start? What do I do?

Re: Only starts when it wants to.

check the battery terminals. if they are loose or cracked or not making a good connection it can cause your problems. check em out real good and clean them and make sure they are tight.

Re: Only starts when it wants to.

i had a problem like that it ended up being my ignition switch. Did you replace it or did you just check it. Mine slid down just enough to not reach. when i would get mad at the car i would shove the steering wheel and turn the key and the car would start.

They may be tight, but if they are not clean you won't get the same power flow, if any. check Negative @ block, Pos. lead clean at the starter as well?

Re: Only starts when it wants to.

When it does this do you get any power? anywhere? If your not getting any power still sounds like a bad battery wire loose wire at the starter? bad ground?

If your getting power would check the ground at the back of the passenger side head it controls the starter relay ..... Or the relay itself?

OK. I will clean the terminals up. And I will check the ground on the starter. It seems I have a few Relays behind the head. I'll do this tomorrow and get back to you guys. thanks
