Ignition issue

Hello all-

I have just performed an engine swap and I am having an issue getting the starter to work. I am getting 12 volts to the starter, when I turn the key on the radio and lights all turn on, but my fuse for my gauges blows out and nothing happens to engage my starter/solenoid. I have looked at all my grounds (I think I covered them all, but could be missing a ground somewhere), but have not been able to turn up anything? I am not sure what is causing my fuse blow out, is that what is also inhibiting my starter from working too? Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.....
Thanks,
Tony

Re: Ignition issue

No i doubt it, But I do beleive there is a short (ie: Pinched wire, bad connection) That is causing that fuse to blow. And it probably has a role in the ignition switch, wich is prolly why you have no start. These little things will drive a man crazy. I am pretty confident in this opinion, Find that short and you will have fixed your problem..Goodluck

Re: Ignition issue

The guage fuses blow when the key is on AND the starter won't engage or when you hit the starter the guage fuse blows?

If it's number one, sounds like two problems. Short in your guage wiring somewhere and check your starter-make sure the little wire's on the right terminal.

If fuses are blowing when you try to turn the starter trace down the starter solenoid wire it's shorting somewhere.

Re: Ignition issue

okay, I did a little more investigating and found that the fuse is infact popping when the key is the on position and not in the starting position. So, will this inhibit me from starting the car was well? or do I have two problems?

Re: Ignition issue

Find out which fuse, get a wiring diagram and trace down everything connected to it. Could be as simple as a bad cig lighter, lamp, etc.
