Solenoid control wire gauge
Solenoid control wire gauge
One dumb question :
Here , i don't have my GM owner manuals ,i should check this in the shop , but , IIRC , in the diagram was specified the wire gauge , nope ? or i'm tripping ?
Back to my question , the starter solenoid control wire (purple) is usually 12 AWG , nope ? , last owner hacked wires , using smaller section wire than 12 AWG, damn!!!!.
All the charts on internet , are talking about solid wire , and not stranded wire , anyone has conversion chart , for STRANDED WIRE , AWG to O.D. in mm/inches ?
Thanks

The diameter of stranded wire depends on the stranding configuration however I just walked over to my wire rack and mic’d up some 12 AWG.
It’s .086”

Re: Y R U Asking
2mm diameter wire should be plenty for the starter solenoid. If you can make it purple, that would be the best, to keep it looking stock.
Here's a useful link to convert the nonsensical AWG numbers to some real units: http://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/aw...uge-d_731.html
Glad that you're doing it the right way!

Thanks for the info , i already know this URL
, for better info look in wikipedia.org , theres a nice article about AWG . [ LINK ]The diameter information in the table applies to solid wires.
12
-> 2.053 mm
I was looking for a chart for convert stranded wires into AWG , as NINÅ says , one factor is the stranding config. Anyone has a table ?
I'm trying to do it by the right way , following the rules of our god GM , no more junk cheap-patch 1mm wire.

Cheers!
