HID wiring help

I just purchased a HID kit for H4 type bulbs (which I have) on my 82 Z28. When everything is wired up to the factory harness, the lights just pretty much flash on then turn off ? They won't stay on ? If I hook up the power and ground directly to the battery, they stay on just fine ?! Do I need a relay to make this work or is there another way to wire this setup ?

Sorry, been reading your posts in the search section for a while now, haven't found a simplified version yet for a novice electronics individual such as myself ! Still reading, looking , and trying to make sense of it all ! Hell, I just got thru reading how to properly wire a relay , LOL !!

Re: HID wiring help

You HID kit is an H4 kit right? That's the top diagram.
Your stock headlight is the middle.
See how they are different?

There are only 2 wire leads (red and black ) from the kit, I've connected them every way I can according to the diagram and all I get is a flicker from the lights ?

umm...we bought h4 hid kits like you are supposed to do. when we installed our kits they had 3 wires from the hid kit plugging into the 3 wires to the stock vehicle harness. we followed the diagram and fixed the wiring mix up.

but if ur kit only has 2 wires, it sounds like you may have bought an hid kit made to be used only as high beams.

please post pics of ur harness and the details from the order reciept that tells you what you ordered.

maybe the company sent you the wrong kit by accident, maybe you ordered the wrong kit by accident.

If it should have 3 wires as you say, then perhaps they did send me the wrong kit. I provided them with all necessary information pertaining to vehicle info . Thanks, I will contact seller.

ya...no one makes hid kits for sealed beam setups..cuz u cant change the bulb in a sealed beam. thats why u get h4 conversion housings, then adapt the wires to match the sealed beam plug set up.

are u sure u order h4 and not h1

I specifically ordered the H4 HID set up as I was already running 6500k non HID H4 bulbs.

You need the H4 Bi-Xenon kit. You have the wrong H4 kit.
