driver side headlight hangs

Quick history..90 firebird...previous owner ate the headlight control harness, or did something with it. I had to make a new set up using relays to raise and lower the lights. No big deal, just time consuming. Works great. Now, when the headlights are fully shut, the driver's side hangs closed. Bump the manual **** and up they go. Just bump it is all it takes (while power is on). I know it's a mechanical glitch of some sort, so has anybody had this apart? What could hang it up so that just bumping it makes it open? Leave it just a hair from fully closed and there's no problem.
Doesn't seem to be anything in the control arm/pivot that's causing the problem.
I just put all this crap (both complete headlights) in a few days ago. I checked the operation of both several times on the bench as a precaution, and all seemed well. Don't really want to disassemble this unless it's a have to, got to, must situation. And I don't want springs and crap flying all over the place until I have an idea what's going on in there.
Thanks...ahead of time.
