reverse lights on t5 swap
reverse lights on t5 swap
I put a t5 with a cable driven speedo in place of t5 with an electronic speedo. Bought a converter for the speedo, works fine. When I shift into reverse, the reverse lights do not come on. Is there some type of electrical connection somewhere on the tranny? If so, is there any way to wire it to the existing electrical harness or will I have to make a completely separate circuit? I swapped the tranny 3 years ago, didn't notice the reverse lights for some time, didn't care till now.

Yes, there's a two-prong plug on the driver side of the transmission. You should have an unused two-prong connector hanging by the transmission. The wire colors would be blue and green.
Hope this helps.

Before you throw any parts/money at a problem (common mistake made daily by many), find out first what you need to replace.
The B/U circuit is one of the simplest. Diagram here: http://www.austinthirdgen.org/mkport...kup_lights.jpg
If your turn signals work, that means the fuse is good (it is shared with the B/U circuit).
So at this point, you have only two possible points of failure:
- switch
- wiring
Unplug the switch connector. Put a testlight in the blue wire and turn the ignition on.
Does the test light light up?
No -> diagnosis: wiring problem between fuseblock and switch.
Yes -> continue below.
Insert a paperclip in the connector and turn the ignition on.
Do the reverse lights light up?
Yes -> diagnosis: bad switch.
No -> wiring problem between the switch and lightbulbs (possibly bad sockets).
Hope this helps.

I used a 2000 pulse adapter. Bought the cheapest one I could find on ebay - don't remember what brand. Wiring to the old VSS is correct.
First, check and see if you need a 4000 or a 2000 pulse for your ECM. If you have the correct one, see if your ECM is reading speed and your speedometer is not displaying it. If you have the correct one and your ECM is not reading speed, you may have a defective sensor. Also, make sure the square hole the adapter fits in rotates when the wheels are rotated (in gear of course). The site below will tell you which pulse adapter you need.

Best of luck!
