hello all im new to this but i was wondering if anyone can help me get passed a smog. o.k all dash lights g on when i turn key but the only one that dont light up is the service engine light. so the smog guy wont pass me cause that light wont come on and off with the brake light. i took instrument panal off and change bolb but no dice. then i checked the wire to that light and i get no power. anyone know away to get this on or get around it. the car is in perfect condition ad runs great i dont wanna change a computer cause of 1 light..... help im going crazy!!! thanks

 

WELL TRY GETTING A STICKER SOMEWAER ELSE, I LIVE OUT IN THE COUNTRY & HAVE NO PROBLEM GETING INSPECTION. BUT ANY WAY I THINK ON SOME OF THESE CARS THE OIL SENDING UNIT WIRES RUN WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT.DOSE YOUR OIL PRESSURE GADGE WORK. CHECK THE WIRES FROM THE SENDING UNIT,BUT LIKE I SAID NOT ALL OF THEM WORK THE SAME.
CHECK UNDER THE PASSANGER SIDE OF DASH & SEE IF ANY WIRES TO THE ECM HAVE BEEN CUT OR BROKE.

 

some bodys messing with you you have a cut wire from your ecm to your light probably have a check engine light on when they tried to sell it

 

I bet he is correct.

I don't have my OBD1 cable yet, used to just reading the codes off these with the paperclip method and flashing ses light, but if it's like i expect with my scanner reading enabled, i bet to confirm the cut wire theory, you'll find some codes set also.
i dont know if they check obd1 cars in cali, but for obdII's they do, and if you have a code it wont pass also. so once you get the light working, if there are codes set you might want to fix them before you go back to be told fail again if that's the case where u are.
