what is this plug for?

please help me identify this plug. It came from behind the dash and I cant find where, the wires are brown and purple. 86 iroc. I have a SES code of 24 (vss open or short circuit) may/or may not be related. I have NO speedo cable connected (mechanical cable that goes to the tranny), but I never had that code before without a speedo cable connected. The connector goes directly behind the guage cluster somewhere, I have taken out the cluster and did not find anywhere that it would hook up to. thank you.
