Oil pressure pegged out, erratic gas gauge

Ok, so my oil pressure gauge decided that it wants to point straight up at all times (pegged out)... i know my oil pressure isnt over 60. what may be causing this? I also notice that my gas gauge likes to bounce, all the time. Being as the car is carb'd i kinda understand the gas gauge, but why would my oil pressure be pegged out? Im pretty sure this has to be electrical, but if not please tell me. Could it be that the oil pressure sending unit is bad? or maybe just a bad connection? I have yet to pull the cluster and check the power levels, but im fairly certain ill find no power, so im confused as to why the gauge is all the way up. Even with the battery disconnected, the gauge is pegged out. Thanks in advance for the help,
Joe

Due to the fact it’s pegged with no battery, it’s defective and needs to be replaced.

Re: Oil Foil

I sort of have the same problem as well, except mine isn't pegged out all the time. I can start the car and it instantly peg itself and stays that way until I turn the car off. Does this mean I have a faulty gauge also or is the sending unit a problem? How can I test either to determine what is wrong?

da.slyboy The first thing you should check for is a broken/disconnected wire from the sensor to the gage.

If none found disconnect the wire from the sensor and connect a 47Ω resistor to the wire.

Connect the other end of the resistor to ground.

Don’t start the engine but with the key in the RUN position if the gage reads about half way the gage is good.

That would mean the problem is the sensor.
