stupid hatch pull down

Ok. i bought my car and the hatch motor was broken and the guy had the wiring all in pieces. So i re wired it and tried to use it, nothing. So i looked around junk yards to find another motor. None all were ripped out. So i went online and they were selling them for a lot of money. So i ripped out the motor and every thing pushed the hatch latch down until it would just hook up to the hatch so it was tight against the seal. then drilled holes in it and put bolts and nuts and even a few self-tapping screws. Has anybody ever done this and is there any down sides. And y the hell would people spend like 300 bucks for replacements. I know the whole idea of keeping things original but still. Well thats my 2 cents.Thnxs for reading.

Re: stupid hatch pull down

I did the same on my 1990 RS - only issue was never quite getting it tight enough and the hatch would squeek and drive me nuts some days.

Keep an eye on eBay and the classifieds here - they show up on occasion for way less than $300.

ebaY Motors

The ebaY part isn’t the pull-down unit.

It’s only the motor for the pull-down unit.

So make sure that’s all you need.

Re: stupid hatch pull down

I just rotated mine temporarily until it latched in place. I could sell you a motor for $20 plus shipping. It would be best to make sure that the motor is actually the problem though. Most of the times it's either the casing, gear or switches that go out.
