No headlights '85 IROC
Left the quick mart early in the morning, turned on the lights and nota. All the other lights work, tail, parking etc... but no headlights. I replaces the switch, ugh, but the same. Purchased a new relay but can't find whrer it goes. No fuse in the fuse block...HELP!!! Has anyone had this before, and how did you fix this. Cars parked...need for speed!

Headlamps are direct power via fusible link from the starter.
There is no fuse in the fuse block for them.

I have been trying to see where this headlight relay goes as well, but have had no response on here either, I found a relay that is similar on the right side of the car close to the firewall, but unsure if this is the right location

Re: No headlights '85 IROC
I gave up the fight. I wired a fuse and switch directly from the battery to the headlights. Although i don't have highbeams, at least I can drive the car now. The relay that is on the inside of the kickplate is for the power locks. As for anything under the steering column, I dropped it and nothing, just a connector to the switches on the column. I do have power from the hot lead at the starter. So I still have not found this relay, povided that the one i purchased is correct. (tru-Tech RY32T).
Thanks, for all the feedback. I have taken my dash 75% out and still have not found this part anywhere. I guess I will need to before I go through state inspection, as I'm sure it will not pass as is. Good luck all.

Re: No headlights '85 IROC
They listed 2 headlight relays for my car, I bought both of them. The only one I found was the one you said might be the AC relay, pin layout is the same. Plugged in the new relay but it did not fix the problem

Re: No headlights '85 IROC
I have a wire diagram that shows 2 relays and a "isolation relay" that operates the 2 relays (Left & right). The wire (yellow) from the switch goes to this. I have to assume that that is the problem or both lights would not be out. That is what I am attempting to locate. I traced the wire as far as possible without undoing the tape, but lost it in the clusterf&^k of wires. I tell you I have been all over under the dash and what I have is not there. I also don't see it under the hood. So my search continues.

Well the plot thickens. Tonight...this morning, the parking lights came on all by themselves. The switch is off, and the alarm is singing away. I unhooked the battery. about to give up...

Re: No headlights '85 IROC
You might have something as simple as a short. Remove the wires at both ends check the wire's with an OHM meter. I had a similar problem a yr ago and i had a wire that was grounding against the frame. Except i looked like the state police with flashing headlights

Re: No headlights '85 IROC
Well, I found a smoked wire from the fuse block to the switch. It was shorting against the parking light wire, so the lights stayed on. I replaced that and the parking light issue is fixed, however, the headlight issue remains the same. I'm quite certain that the issue is the "Isolation relay" but still don't know where it's located. Back to the drawing board.

Re: No headlights '85 IROC
I've got a 91' and i'm having a very similar problem except it's not the plug I'm trying to find, it's the relay!! It's taken me about a month to finally find the plug for a headlight relay but it had no relay attached to it. Jumped a wire between two of the poles and I have headlights! Went to the surrounding auto parts stores but no one seems to have the relay even in their systems. Anyhow, I found the plug under the dash behind the fuse box (between the fuse box and the firewall) shoved pretty high up there. What's the relay look like that you guys have bought? 4-pin? Amperage?

Re: No headlights '85 IROC
Hey, it's a 5 prong relay. Large compared to most relays. you can find it at rockauto.com. Look at the pic at rock auto and see if it looks like the receptical.

Re: No headlights '85 IROC
Had the same problem a few months back. Check the dimmer switch. thats what it was on my '85. I did the same thing as you guys, bought a new headlight switch, pulled the dash apart, changed the switch and..... NOTHING! You can check the dimmer, which is located on the lower end of the steering column and operated with a rod from the lever, with a jumper wire. Find the hot pole with a test light and jump from that to one of the other poles on the dimmer plug The headlight switch has to be on when you do the test. If the dimmer is the problem the headlights will come on.
Hopefully this works for you. The dimmer switch is a lot easier to change than the other switch too. Good luck.

Re: No headlights '85 IROC
The relay is between the firewall and the fuse box that is under the dash. It was pretty hidden. It's a 5 prong plug, but only 4 of these prongs are actually functional. The terminal in the middle had no wires attached to it. I actually jumped a wire between two of the terminals on the plug and the lights worked. Just bought a 5 prong relay, hooked it up and no lights. I think since I have only 4 functional terminals the 5 prong relay didnt work. Maybe you'll have better luck..

Relay Interesting
Not all Camaros need or have the relay, that’s why you haven’t noticed.

If People Drove Any Slower They’d Be Going Backwards
When you see fog or “running” lights on in good weather beware. Low performance driver ahead.
How bout those nitwits too scared to drive without headlights in the daytime and the nitwits that need headlights for a little rain
