V6 Harness Identification

Well, I've got a wee bit of a problem I cant find any injector wires, I've found an Iac and tps.. that points to a v6 Nothing really points to MPFI besides those few items. However i still cant find the injector wires or coolant temp.Don't be too quick to shoot me, I can't seem to find any reliable information =| So I'll simply provide a few pictures and a short description corresponding with a number. If any body could help identify what the connectors are i would greatly appriceate the help. Also if any one could point me in the direction of an accurate wiring diagram for my engine harness that would be great to.

89 V6 MPFI 2.8L i bought the car with no motor or trans and i plan on putting a 5.3l in it. so mostly i just need to know wich connectors are used for guages.

Re: V6 Harness Identification

First off, bookmark the LS1 swap sticky. Your 5.3 came from a truck and is designated LM7, but the swap is the same as a LS1. Much like all SBCs are grouped together

Next, read this thread
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/ltx-...p-3rd-gen.html

It goes over in detail how to keep your stock gauge functions

The connectors

1) 3rd gen alt, not reused

2) EGR, pnk/blk is emissions common wire. You can use it as an optional 12v IGN fused wire, otherwise remove it

3) Oil pressure sender with the fuel pump relay bypass. TAN goes to the gauge, the others are a backup incase the relay fails during run. You can keep this function or remove the two wires. Its up to you

4) Distributor, not reused

5) Fan thermal switch, not reused

6 & 7) Went to the injector miniharness. Neither are reused

8) EVAP canister purge solenoid. LS1 PCM cannot control this so remove it. If you must keep an emissions friendly swap then the 99-02 plastic LS1 tank is your only option. EVAP is built into it

9) Power steering high pressure line pressure sensor, not reused

10) Washer bottle solenoid connector. Keeper

11) HVAC harness connector. Keeper

12) Coil, white goes to the PCM tach output, pink is your main 12v IGN source

13) AC related, not reused unless you are retrofitting 3rd gen AC onto the new engine. LS1 style AC will not reuse this

14) Power distribution block, V6's and V8's got them. Id upgrade to a S10 5 pole. That single pole will be overloaded with the new harness

15) Relay of some sort, either MAF or burnoff. The only relays to keep are the fans and fuel

16) Not sure, not gauge related though

17) Inline fuse for the fuel pump relay/PCM 12v battery, missing the fuse and cap. It uses a 20A spade fuse. Rob them from the other inline fuse from #15

Re: V6 Harness Identification

oh and as far as number 16, that conecter goes to the sensor that is conected to the air intake tube, not sure as what to call it or what its called but its right behind the black rubber tube that links the air filter cover to the intake manifold, i had to reconect that one as well on mine...i personaly am not sure wether its needed or not though i just remember the colors of the wires that i had to hook up on it...lol...its the MAFS

Re: V6 Harness Identification

I later rechecked in my giant pile of unused connectors and it was attached to a relay. Color cross to the schematic showed it was MAF. I didnt update the thread because it still isnt reused for his swap

Re: V6 Harness Identification

true its not needed for the swap, i just put that up there because of two reasons,(1 he would know what it was for and know that it wasnt needed, and 2i was just tickled that i actualy knew were it went by my own unfortunate experience.).......lol

Re: V6 Harness Identification

It goes to a sheetmetal screw in the metal inner fender right smack dab in teh middle of everything, not hidden or out of the way. Ugly

Its a redundant ground for the headlight harness

Re: V6 Harness Identification

so that would explain why my headlight wires are burnt then because the ground isnt hooked up and its a lil burnt too, i was wandering, would it be hard to fix a rust hole on the inner fender right behind the strut tower?....its about 2 inches wide and about 8 inches long......im hoping the inner fender can be replaced or is the tower not part of that?...i cant really look at it right now and i dont remember...and its on the drivers side were the double ground goes.
