Steering Column Issues

So the Firebird that I am working on has all the wiring taken out of it. I am replacing it with an EZ Wiring kit. My main concern is the steering column. I have the column plugs but I am unsure of what some of the wiring coming off of the column is. I have looked at the wiring diagrams but they don't make a whole lot of sense as far as what is plugged where. I need to know what of the wires attached to the column I actually need. If someone could please help I would really appreciate it. And any pictures would be fantastic!!!!

Oh and I thought about repairing the wiring but it was really really bad!
It was a complete disaster before hand. The guy who had it before me did a real hack job! Believe me when I say that there was no possibility of repairing any of the wiring.

THANKS!!
Zyd

Re: Steering Column Issues

Does anyone have any feedback at all on this? I really need help. I have the wiring diagrams but they really aren't very detailed I find them a little hard to follow. I understand something much better when I have an actual image of what the item is. Preferably an image of the plug on the steering column, and what each wire is.. The wiring diagrams really just show lines coming off of a really simple drawing.

I have the wires coming off of the steering column I just don't know what goes where.

thanks guys!

Re: Steering Column Issues

Well, you got yourself a little bit of a challenge, there. First, not all thirdgen columns are exactly the same, so pics may or may not help you.

Your wiring diagram should at least give you the colors of the wires, which can be a great help in identifying components and individual circuits. It might also pay to get some better schematics that are more detailed.

Re: Steering Column Issues

Austinthirdgen.org has some wiring diagrams.

http://www.americanstreetmasters.com/Wiring_101_16.jpg This is a diagram of the turn signal switch (the wide plug). The turn signals, hazards, etc run through this. Note that the white wire does not get hooked up if your car has independent brake and turn signal lights.
