power steering wire
i have an 87 Pontiac firebird base coupe with the 2.8 v6. on the hose from the power steering pump to the steering box there is a conecter that has two wires a black with a white stripe and a white wire some previous owner cut these wire and i was wondering what do they go to and should i try and reattach them. the power steering seems to be working fine but i don't know fur sure yet cuz i haven't got it running right yet.still trying to chase all the problems.any info on purpose for these wires would be greatly appreciated.

Re: power steering wire
Someone correct me if I am wrong but doesnt this go to a pressure switch? The switch sends a signal to the engine when making a slow speed sharp turn and it would increase idle speed. Seems like the AC had to be also on as well.

Re: power steering wire
I think its on the steering box itself. I looked at the schematic and I think its called the Power Steering Anticipate switch. It has a blk and white wire and a gray wire. It looks like the wires go to the ECM. I found another diagram that shows it in the same area as the steering box so check there. It also shows for 87 being called a power steering pressure switch. Its possible that the box might have been changed and the replacement doesnt have the sensor.

Re: power steering wire
Its in the high pressure line between the pump and the box. You shouldnt have any trouble finding it since its the only engine sensor in the whole area

Re: power steering wire
is there any way you could post a link to the schematic i think im gonna try to re connect these wire if at all possible. if you have any other wiring diagrams or links to some they would be greatly appreciated as these aren't the only wires that are cut or disconnected

Re: power steering wire
thanx for the links the will be a great help in figuring out the mess of a wiring harness. i still cant find the "Power Steering Anticipate switch." in an earlier post you said if that's the case should i just disconnect the wire from the power steering pump hose and forget about it. Thread
