Wiring or ECM?

I have an 84 TA with Computer Controlled Carb.. Been dealing with High idle where it takes off like a jet, then sometimes it wont even stay running unless you mash the pedal. I took it to the shop and they said that the scan tools cant read the computer to see what the carburetor is doing, also the only light in the dash that lights up when you turn on the car is the choke light. No check Engine light or brake or anything....

I thought maybe bad ECM, but the ECM controls the Idle Mixture Solenoid in the carburetor correct? And it DOES click after I shut the car off.

Where should I start on this? I need the car to run period.

*Edit By the way, thank you for this site, it has been very helpful so far*

ECM Light - Less Calories

ECM’s can partially fail.

If the light bulb isn’t burnt out, it’s either a bad ECM or the wiring going to it.
