brake lights

He Everyone!!

I finally got around to taking the camaro apart and getng some paint thrown on it. When I put it ack together, suddenly my brake lights didn't work anymore. The running lights works and the turn signals work, but when I push the pedal nothing happens. Then, when the car is turned off, I push the brake pedal and all the running lights come on including the dash lights and it beeps as if the lights were left on without the key.

Any suggestions? I double checked the bulbs to make sre a single filiment wasn't in the place of doube and so forth, but it was late last night and that is all the further I got into the diagnostic.

The car is a 87 z28...5 speed manual...electic hatch

Thanks!!

Re: brake lights

Sounds like you're getting battery to ground. Did you re-wire anything?

Re: brake lights

I didn't rewire anything...I'm thinking that during the disassembly I must have pulled a wire unintentionally...I found 3 wires around the electronic hatch unit that are not connected...I don't know where they are supposed to go, or what they are supposed to do.

Re: brake lights

Re: brake lights

also due to bad connections bulb contacts and contacts inside socket can melt and fuse together good visual insp of rear lamps should solve your issue.

Re: brake lights

i know im being a pita but technically a bad ground to rear lamps may cause same issue.stiil going w/ bulb or socket though.

Re: brake lights

so I went through and checked the bulbs...I believe I have the single/dual filament part correct...as I was looking at the plugs I noticed a pretty large amount of gunk in the bottom of the plugs? Is this a contact enhancer or something? It looks like it was purposefully put there?
