fuse #15 HELP!
ok the other day when i was pulling the seats to clean i found fuse #15 which i didnt even know i was missing, anyhow i belive its something to do with the hatch and well i finally got around to popping it in and now the rear hatch is making a fairly loud buzzing sound that you can hear around and inside the car but its coming right around the hatch motor area. it never done this before and i tried pulling the fuse back out but no luck i didnt pull extremly hard but i didnt wanna break anything. i was afraid this would drain my battery so took off the negative cable and the buzzing stopped so i put it back on to see if it went away and well it came back. i dont know what to do know is this normal? help please! btw i put in the fuse when the engine was off but battery connected and when i installed i could see the electricity go thru the fuse but it never got really warm. HELP!
CLIFF NOTES, installed fuse 15, now making buzzing noise at hatch, what to do!

Re: fuse #15 HELP!
well most likely it never worked... fuse box lid, is common... I had pick one up from the wrecking yard... just go ahead and use some needle nose pliers and pull it back out... if you are a bit anxious about perhaps getting shocked, don't be, or better yet just disconnect the negative battery cable... remember positive juice wont' harm you as long as you don't ground it... this only applies to cars...

Re: fuse #15 HELP!
im trying figure out what the fuse actually does though as im not sure if it something that will help me that i just havent figured out though as its gonna be a daily driver and if its something that i'll need for the hatch. you dont think having the battery connected and putting the fuse in damaged anything do you? i'll try to figure out exactly what its for and then either pull it or see what im suppose to do. thank you though.
no not at all... the hatch motor is most likely toast, or I am not sure if there's a switch that needs replacing to shut the motor off...

Re: fuse #15 HELP!
ok btw what is the purpose of the hatch motor anyhow i dont see the point as i can already fully close even without the fuse. and not sure if this is related but anyhow by the hatch motor and the light there is a little panel that there is a switch that goes back and forth is that for the light?

Re: fuse #15 HELP!
yep that switch is for a light located next to it... the hatch motor is so you don't have to slam the hatch down... you just gently lower it and it latches, the motor then pulls it down and locks it...

Re: fuse #15 HELP!
dont know if you are still looking for help with this or not, but that 15amp fuse is what allows power to reach your hatch, for the hatch motor and the light back there
from the sound of it your plastic gear in your hatch motor has stripped and its just letting the motor spin freely, good news is you wouldnt need a new motor because it is still spinning(from what i understand) you just need a plastic gear
plastic gears for hatch motors are 7 bucks from Top down solutions and about the same from Hawks
if you are mechanically inclined then it should be a fairly easy task, if not i would say just leave everything alone for now if the hatch already closes tight enough, pull the 15 fuse back out and leave it until you are ready to properly fix the hatch pull down unit
its a fairly simple unit to work on

Re: fuse #15 HELP!
Constant buzzing sounds like the motor is just fine. The gear may be broken or stripped and the motor is constantly trying to pull the hatch shut and trip the relay. Since the gear isnt engaging, it never trips and thus constantly runs. Pop the rear cover off (the big one) and take a gander at the pull down unit. With a bad gear/broken housing the whole unit will slide up and down by hand

Re: fuse #15 HELP!
i wish i would have found one, i searched every junkyard in my area(and in the area i use to live in) for a month looking for a pull down unit, and every single thirdgen was already stripped of them, it would be a full camaro/bird sitting there with nothing missing but the wheels and the hatch motor lol

Re: fuse #15 HELP!
I never even thought of looking in other cars, chances are they would be stripped too though, if your not the first one in a car in the junkyards here your lucky to find what your looking for

Re: fuse #15 HELP!
you woud be suprised of how many people space it off or just dont want to crawl in the back of a car to get one out, it was a PITA for me to crawl in the back of that camaro..., but once you get it and get it fixed its all better.
