wiper motor
I went threw two different wiper motors thinking the first one they sold me was bad. Now here is the problem. when i turn the switch on it just clicks and does nothing at all. the clicking noise is coming from the wiper motor itslef. now when i bought the new motor it just came with the motor and not the black plastic cover with the control board inside. could that be what is bad if so what is it called.
For a little more info the old one used to work but i had to hit it with a wrench.
Thanks for any help

Re: wiper motor
that is the wiper motor module if its no good that could very well be the problem. or its the switch. the module controls everything that the wiper motor does. there is also a circuit breaker in that module and it sounds like it could be popping

Re: wiper motor
if you replaced the motor then its not that. i would go with the module..because there is a capacitor and an breaker in it. i would think that if the capacitor os bad it would be popping the breaker

Re: wiper motor
motor doesnt work
- Try turning ignition switch on and the wiper off, connect the test light lead to a ground on your car and probe harness terminal No. 3.
- If the light illuminates :
- Connect the test light lead to the ground at the wiper motor case and probe harness terminal # 3.
- If the light does not illuminate, check both the motor ground connections.
- If the light illuminates, place the wiper switch in Lo position, then connect the test light lead to the ground at the wiper motor case and probe harness terminal # 2.
- If the light does not illuminate, find and fix open from wiper switch to motor.
- If light illuminates, check continuity between terminal #s. 1 and 8.
- If there is no continuity, locate and repair open between terminal #s 1 and 8 in wiring harness.
- If there is continuity, check armature, circuit breaker, circuit breaker ground and brushes.
- If light does not illuminate:
- Check the fuse.
- If the fuse is not blown, find and repair open in circuit from the fuse block to the wiper motor.
- If the fuse is blown, change it.
- If the fuse blows again, unplug the motor and change the fuse.
- If fuse blows again, check for grounded condition in wire to terminal No. 3.
- If fuse does not blow, check for high amperage at the motor. Lowest current draw on dry glass should not exceed 6.4 amps.
- Move the switch to Lo position. If the fuse does not blow, repeat step 6.
- If the fuse blows, check resistance from terminal No. 2 to ground.
- If resistance is not 20-25 ohms, replace park switch.

Re: wiper motor
lol well i was messing around with the wipers some and i forgot the plug that goes into the bottom of the motor. But still having issuse. It only goes one speed and when i hit the switch to off they keep going until i turn off the ignition. but get this when i turn the car back on they finish the cycle and go to the relaxed posistion. what do you make of that.

Re: wiper motor
i know this is about a month old, but im having the same problem almost to the T, sorry about the hijack, but this is mainly a bump so i can maybe find out whats wrong with mine too, my old motor would just click when i turn the switch, i replaced the motor along with the module and now the wipers will come on when i turn the switch, but they will go up, and go right back down and stay there, no matter the setting, then its like the motor is bad again, no movement, no clicking or anything, until i shut the car off, then i have remove the module and put it back on, then it will do it all again, go up once, go down, then nothing
again sorry for the hijack, but there seems to be a lot of threads on wipers, and i didnt want to make another just because i couldnt find a solution

Re: wiper motor
The cam inside the cover needs to be positioned correctly before the cover is replaced. I've snapped this cam off by not doing this. The attached was taken from the 1986 factory manual.
Look at the picture and align the cam with the hole indicated. Item number 3. The cam is the green or brown(?) thing that spins around.

Re: wiper motor
Try to unbolt and re-bolt the Wiper assembly to the firewall. The 10mm bolt @ the top left is where the 1984-87 Wiper assembly gets it's ground from. If your car isn't an 84-87,.... check that it's got a good ground @ the black wire.
Could very well be a bad Wiper Motor cover ( highly probable) or bad motor (not likely) too.
These are diagrams for the 84-87 Wiper motor.

Re: wiper motor
His car is an 87 and yours is a 92,... so the wiper motor in your car is NOT the same as his. Here is a schematic of the 88-92 ( DELAY ) Wiper system

Re: wiper motor
On my 1984 T/A my intermittent wiper board went bad. Replaced it with another and immediately trashed it by turning it on. (The cam & fragile contacts wern't lined up as it should of been.)
Come to find out, replacement boards new or used are rare & expensive for the early years.
My fix was a junk yard wiper motor out of a 1994 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera, these other models should also be the same:
BUICK CENTURY 1987-1996
CHEVROLET CAMARO 1988-1992
CHEVROLET CELEBRITY 1987-1990
OLDSMOBILE CUTLASS CIERA 1987-1996
OLDSMOBILE CUTLASS CRUISER 1987-1992
PONTIAC 6000 1987-1991
PONTIAC FIREBIRD 1988-1992
I removed the plug in washer pump from the original '84 wiper motor and used it externally.
The Delay wiper switch is still the original '84 T/A one.
Motor bolted right up.
Wiring:
1994 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera:
6- A- Yellow-
5- B- Green-
4- C- Green- + Signal from Stalk
3- D- Red- Washer Motor +
2- E- Blue- Washer Motor Ground
1- F- Pink- Connects to 8 (connect pink to red to remove intermittent washer)
7- -- Black Ground
8- -- Yellow- Connects to 1- F- Pink
9- -- Purple
I remember eventually removing the washer pump wires from the motor and just running it to a small relay activated by the cruise control 'set' button
because there was nothing more aggravating than the leisurely OEM Squirt- Squirt- Squirt- of the washer fluid, I'd rather have squuuuuuuuuuuuuiiiirrrt.
This was several years ago, so these are the notes I made while doing this conversion.
It (should) be accurate, however I'm not likely to remember specifics from that far back, (so use at your own risk.)
It's still working Intermittent / High / Low, so maybe this can help someone out there.
