Firebird help

Hi, I am in the process of fixing up a 89 firebird I purchased. On of the many problems I am having is that the drivers side turn signal doesnt blink at the rear it just stays lit. Before you tell me to try the hazard lights I cant cause I have put a steering column from an 1990 firebird formula into it and the hazards and the windshield wipers do not work cause the wires dont connect so I have to splice them. Can anyone offer some advice to a Beginning mechanic please?

Re: Firebird help

Turn signals can be kind of interesting. Ill try to put it as simply as I can but the way they work is they have a flasher bulb which opens and closes an electrical contact to make lights blink. Now without getting into the science of how this happens ill tell you that the rate at which the flasher bulb opens and closes is related to the current drawn through it. Simply put more current will make it blink faster less current will make it blink slower. In this case since it is not blinking not enough current is being drawn so you may want to make sure your turn signal bulbs are working. If not replace the bulbs or check the connections.

change ur blinker cylinoid. pull one from a pick and pull or get it from autozone, napa, or orielys.

Re: Firebird help

I agree with rolling thunder, always start simple check the bulbs first then the connectors and fuses. On my car it always seems that when the light doesn't blink and one stays on, the light that doesn't light at all is where you have a bad bulb or bad connection.
