water temperature switch questions

Converting from a one-wire (idiot light) to a two-wire (guage) temperature sensor on my 1992 5.7 TBI engine. It's in my chevy truck but the wiring should be the same as F-body.

What does the second wire go to? Is it a ground?

Thanks in advanced

Re: water temperature switch questions

It doesnt work that way

Cars and trucks still use the one wire sender for the gauge and the 2 wire CTS for the ECM/PCM

You need to plug them up correctly or neither will work and the engine will run rich/lean

The sender unit for the idiot light is just a off/ on switch that turns on at low oil pressure and the one for a pressure gauge is a variable resistance that changes with oil pressure .
Both 1 wire so just install the correct type sender unit

I think the OP wanted water temp, not oil pressure lol. I'm interested in this as well, not sure if my factory temp gauge is accurate.
