where is my high beams
i got 2 sets of headlamps on the car and only have low beams. was told that the high beam switch is engaged by moving my wiper selector either towards me or away from me. it moves but does not engage the high beams or click or flash them. there's power to the switch because my wipers work. one of the 2 previous owners had my fan hardwired to come on automatically when the ignition switch is in the on position dont know if they are on the same circuit or not, any comments or suggestions or ideas would help

Re: where is my high beams
There is a rod that travels from the lever down to a switch under the colum. I find the rod comes out easily (especially if the steering wheel has come off at some point... possible to fix the wobbly wheel problem we get). In any case, it's probably the problem. Just locating the rod... which you'll need to get under the dash with a flashlight. If you see the rod, and it's in the right place (you should be able to tell ,cause it would just be hanging there otherwise). if it is, then you need to open up the steering column, and find out if the rod is hooked into the lever to actually move the rod back and forth. I'm sure there's more to add, but I'll leave that to others to fill in! Good luck!

Check both the rod and switch at the base of the column.

Re: where is my high beams
all of the above , a common enough problem . switch on column will slip down after 20 years of flipping beams . lowering steering shaft helps , loosen bolts/screws holding switch . slide switch up to remove slop , re-tighten screws . i have done this several times . its a PITA to get at but an easy/cheap fix . good luck .

Re: where is my high beams
If your tilt column is loose it can also cause the lever and rod to not correctly engage the switch.

Re: where is my high beams
As mentioned above, the floppy steering wheel is a common problem & cause of the high beam rod coming out of the switch. Be there myself just 2 years ago.
Does your steering wheel flop/"wiggle" when you move it, yet the column stays still? If not? I would bet that it did at one time, got fixed, but wen fixed whoever fixed it didn't get the high beam rod out back in place correctly before buttoning it all up & calling it done.
Steering Column fix
I think the above article should be replaced with this one......
