no headlights

My dad and I recently rewired the engine bay and had to take apart the dash to get access to the firewall. The car has been put back together and the engine runs smoothly but I have a few issues. 1) The speedo is out. All the other gauges work except for that. 2) The headlights wont turn on. And 3) The tuning that I have been told to do for the TPS asks to move it until you get 0.5 volts on the voltmeter, but we havent been able to get more that 0.2 volts. We had this same issue last time and replaced the sensor and now the wiring has been replaced as well and we still have the same problem. Please help

Using a voltmeter or test light (the type for testing for voltage, not a continuity tester) probe the 12 AWG red wire going to the headlight switch.

Is there power there?

Re: Merely Drive In Reverse And Use The Backup Lights

At the headlight switch, there is no power. I'm going to pop off the fuse tomorrow and see if there is power getting to the fuse block then i can narrow it down. If this helps any, my cigar lighter, defogger, domelight and horn also don't work at the moment and I already checked the acc fuse that those belong to and it appears to be fine but I will also check for power going to that as well. Any other suggestions would be appreciated

Power for the headlight switch doesn’t come from the fuse block.

It comes from a fusible link located near the battery.

Re: no headlights

I see that now thank you. Using a continuity tester with the battery unplugged, I get nothing going to the fuse block at all and my wipers don't work, but the car still starts and my brake lights, rear turn signals and back up lights all work. Would a faulty fusible link allow some of these things to work but cut off power to the rest? Looking at the wiring diagrams, it appears that the starter and ecm join the circuit after fusible link b, so would it make sense that fusible link a would be blown?

Yes with that much power loss you should check all the links.

Quantity and location of links vary according to model and year however there are approximately 3, and usually located near the battery.

If you have no CLICK at the dimming stalk the switch might need adjustment.

You can gain access to it at the bottom of the steering column.

When you pull the lever you'll see the moving rod and the switch.

You’ll need a 7mm nut driver.

As you pull the lever you'll see the rod moving.

Adjust the switch so the rod pushes the button.

The fusible links should be near the battery.

Re: Merely Drive In Reverse And Use The Backup Lights

thanks i just looked. i found the switch you are talking about when i pull the lever. and i see the rod is hooked up and is pushing on the switch when i pull....i tried to push on the switch with my hand...and still did not get it to click at all. i will try to adjust it like you said.
questions:
1. will this make me have no headlights at all...no power
2. i took out my cruise control and was just going to switch my turn signal switch to a normal wiper high/low switch...how do you get it out of column

Re: Merely Drive In Reverse And Use The Backup Lights

fusible links are by the battery... all in the wiring harness by the battery or coming from the battery?
its just wierd that one issue is no headlights....

When they fail, they can get stuck between the brights and normal mode causing neither lamps to illuminate.

The stalk just pulls out of the column after you remove the trim piece AKA dust cover.

You’ll want to tie the stalk connector with a piece of wire or line so you won’t have to fish for it later.

They should be all near the battery.

However if you have power on the
yellow wire the link is OK.

have power on the yellow wire coming from the headlight switch when i pull the switch to turn the lights on
That’s good.

It means the fusible link is OK.
