Seen this before, turn to start gauge fuse pops

I have a new problem with my car.
The gauges quit working a few days ago. When I put in a new fuse I can turn the key to on and every thing works but when I go to start the gauge fuse pops.
Has any one seen this before?
Also I had to pull the dash apart to fix some burned up wires, all the heavly damaged ones were pink with a stripe which means they should have been for the gauges.

One of the gages is shorted or one of the wires going to it.

You can determine if the problem is inside or outside of the dash by disconnecting the dash connectors.

If the fuse still blows, the problem is inside.

Then you’ll can internally disconnect the gages one at a time until the problem goes away.

Where exactly are the dash connectors at under the dash? I'm having this same exact problem. One day I'm driving along, I hit the gas and boom I blow the gauge fuse. Now every time I start the car, it will blow that same fuse immediately.

They are located near the bottom of the dash, one on each side, in back of it.

For me, It turned out to be a connector located underneath distributor cap. Apparently the wire/connector got fryed sitting on the manifold or something to that degree(that's what the tech told me) Anyway, I went to the junkyard and pulled a connector off an old transam. Guages are all working again and no more fuese poping. Hope this helps.
