HID Headlight problems

EDIT: I just bought a new alternator to try and solve the problem with the light shutting off when on brights, no change, still go out. My next task is to get a new battery (The one in it is only ~ 3 months old) and re-ground the harness to the chassis.

Seem to be ok, only had them in for 1 day. I did notice though that after I hooked them up and while driving at night I switched on my brights, about 10 minutes later ONLY the headlights flashed on and off at random intervals. I took out the wiring harnesses that came with the lights and now they seem to be ok but they aren't as bright as they were.

As you can see the housing itself is diamond not the lens.

Angle view..

Dims, as you can see the brights still light up (I'd like some help with a reason as to why, they never did before) I personally think they look sweet at night, kinda like a new Challenger or BMW with the halo/glow effect.

Brights, again the dims are on OPPOSITE of when brights were off.

Re: HID Headlight problems

Did you upgrade your headlight harness or re-pin the connectors to the headlights? Those H4 lights draw more current than your headlight switch can handle and its internal thermal breaker opens when the current limit is exceeded and your lights go off. As for the weird lighting, H4 lights have different connectors than the stock sealed beams, they look the same, but the signals are different on each pin.

Look at the tech article for a how-to for upgrading your harness with relays so your switch won't be overwhelmed with excess current.

Also, you should make these changes to your connectors, each pin needs to be moved over one space as this diagram shows

Re: HID Headlight problems

try an HID a relay kit as well Chevy's are notorious for the flashing/blinking lights when you replace them with HIDs. This is very common try the relay and I bet the problem will stop. Here is a place that carries them and they are pretty cheap pre wired ready to go. DO NOT replace your battery it wont do anything.

Re: HID Headlight problems

I bought the relay and received it today. I am looking it over and I really need to modify it too to make it work. My HID lights have the same connection as our standard lights, not the oval sealed connection like this kit.
