Factory fog switch with aftermarket lights
I have a factory fog switch (but no harness) for 91-92 Camaros. I want to hook up the aftermarket fogs from Harbor Freight. Same ones that are sold at Auto Zone and other parts stores for under $20. The fog lights has 3 wires and the OEM switch has four wires (black, grey, purple and yellow). The left and right lights merge into one wire going to the switch along with a power and ground wre. I know from my 88 factory fogs that they stay on with the park lights but not with the brights. That part I don't care about and just want to turn them on as needed.
From past experience I know the aftermarket switches suck but the lites work fine. I am just looking for solid wiring help. Thanks in advance.

Re: Factory fog switch with aftermarket lights
I did this to my 87 GTA & it should apply to the Camaros as well, I just don't know where the Camaros relay for this is located at.
5 min. fix for Fog Lights on regardless of Hi/Low.
And to improve Firebird Fog Light output......

Re: Factory fog switch with aftermarket lights
I used aftermarket lights and factory switch. Here's what I did:
SWitch - one wire is ground, one is power to switch (to light the little light in it), one wire is power out to fogs, last wire I believe runs to headlight switch to make switch glow when lights are on.
I installed the fogs - wired one to other as needed, and wired both to a relay under the hood. Ground relay, and on 3rd relay tab power in from battery (power dist center between battery and radiator). 4th relay tab is the power on from the switch inside the car.
So, turn on switch, power to switch lights up the green LED in switch, and power runs out to relay, relay activates, connecting 12v from battery to fogs.
There should be the factory plug in the dash for the switch - but the wires dead end at the c100 connector - that's why I just ran a small "signal wire" out to the relay setup - keeps from having high amperage wires running in/out of cabin.
Hope that helps - it's been a few years since I did it, don't remember what wire colors went where - but its not hard to figure out - black is ground, so the other 3 just probe looking for the 12v out only when switch is on, and run this to the relay to activate it.

Re: Factory fog switch with aftermarket lights
I use the relay for 2 reasons:
1) to keep from running high amperage wiring through the firewall - shorts are bad, high amperage shorts can cause fires - foglights draw alot of amps
2) So that the fogs get the highest amount of juice possible - direct connection to battery under hood is close, so no amperage drain along a long run of wire.
Use of a relay on any high amperage draw item (such as fogs, fans, fuel pump) is just a safe practice - relays are pretty cheap, easy to wire, and an added safeguard
You don't need a connector - just crimp female spade connectors on the wires and they will fit right on the relay. There are 4 prongs - 1 gets a ground, one gets the 'activate' 12v+, one runs to battery (larger guage wire), and other runs to the lights (larger guage wire).
Here's a diagram: http://www.ado13.com/techs/relay.htm The terminals on the relay will be marked with those numbers in the diagram.
