Help with 1986 Trans Am

I have an 86 Trans Am. The engine is a 305 and has had a lot of work. The problem is that After I seated the rings and was driving the car back home it lost all Electrical power the car just faded away. The dash lights got dim and the engine lost power. The headlights never went out nor got dim. I have replaced the switch, and I am getting power to the switch, but cant get power to go any further. The electric fan was wired up to a toggle switch, and hte wires were running through the main wiring harness, and while driving they shorted out. I have taken the wiring harness apart and can find no broken wires! HELP I need this thing running again , so it can be finished!

OK if the headlights never went out you might be talking about the ignition switch.

If you’re getting power to the switch but not out of the switch, there is a bad connection at the connector point, or the main movable contact went bad.

If it’s the latter replace the switch.
