keep burning wire from alternator to battery
I gotta 92 camaro that keeps burning the wire from the back of the alternator to the battery up...at first it took about 2 weeks before it would burn it up so one day o unhooked it for about to days then hooked it back up started the car and with in a minute of the car running it melted the wire..the car also had the duel fans wired to a toggle switch but had the power wire goin to the back of the alternator as well..it was eating that wire up as well.any idaes what it could be...thanks..i got a red top optima battery on the car...i was thinkin maybe the two duel fans was to much for it but the fans were off when the wire melted...do I need to run just one fan not two...its wired wit 10g wire wit no in-line fuse..the guy said something abt it kept blowin the inline fuse up so he just didn't use one on it..thanks for any help

if its burning fuses and wires, there's definitely an issue going on. i would first check to make sure you have a good ground going to the alt/engine (extra resistance will heat up wires). also, check the voltage coming out of the alt and make sure all connections are solid (no corrosion, rust, loose end, etc)

Really sounds like there is a short somewhere if you are
burning up a 10 GA. wire...-check that modified fan
wiring real close, could be a bad fan motor too-check for
one that turns stiff or runs slow.
I tested a set of stock dual fans once and found each
motor pulled 7.5amps at full speed,so only 15a total
(when 1st switched on they might draw around 30a for
a couple secs until up to speed)you can easily run both
fans together without problems if the motors and
wiring are all good(best to use a seperate relay and fuse
for each fan so if one fails the other one will still work...)

I know the wiring was bad at first...i done rewired it today but other then that haven't gotten the time yet to redo the alternator/battery wire yet..prett sure it's shot as well...the fan motors might be goin out cause every one in awhile I noticed they will cut off and then turn back on after on...all I know right now is that I got straight ripped off on this car..the only thing good is the body..i thought it was in better shape before I gotten it...
