Optima Yellowtop Battery info
Hey guys,
I'm planning on relocating the battery to the rear spare tire well area (with a BMR box/tray) and I want to buy this battery simply because i've 'read' that it does not vent out harmful gases. Relocating to the rear of our cars makes it possible for harmful gases to reach the passenger compartment. I don't want to drill holes to vent the battery to the outside..
My mechanic told me that he is sure that ANY battery will vent some sort of chemical because of the nature of what batteries do.
My question: Does the Optima Yellowtop provide a safe alternative to other batteries when placed inside the passenger compartment spare-tire area? Or am I doomed to drill holes to outside of the car or leave it at the front.. I want to make this as stock looking as possible.. They also said they'd route the wires inside the car, under the carpet, and NOT outside the car (this car isn't driven in rain tho i want it to be as stock as possible!)

gel cell batteries (like the yellow top) do not gas like your typical wet cell lead batteries. you can run the wiring inside the vehicle (there's a ton of room under the door sill plates), but at some point you will have to go through the firewall to reach the engine bay. most will use the area near the antenna grommit to pass through.

Ok awesome. Going through the firewall is not that big of an issue, i'll get the hole sealed up nice and tight. So what you're saying is that the gel cell batteries do NOT vent gas like wet cell batteries or do they not vent gas at all? And above all are they 100% safe for use inside the passenger compartment? That is my main concern here.. Thanks!
