Hey guys,

I bought this 86 firebird which at the time I thought only needed a small amount of work and is turning into a complete tear down. The issue I'm working on right now is simply getting spark to the plugs. I replaced the plugs, wires, ignition coil, distributor cap and rotor, still nothing. I have one of the base models that has the idiot light cluster panel on it and absolutely nothing shows up on them at all, regardless of the key position, if the car is cranking, nothing. My question to you guys is, do you think it is the ecm that is the problem? I mean short of putting in a new dizzy and ignition module I am at a loss for what it could be.

Did it run when you bought it? It cranks but will not start? Have you replaced the dizzy?

 

It didn't run when i bought it. It had been sitting for a yr prior, or so I was told. It does crank, and I have not replaced the dizzy yet. At this point I am just working on the spark aspect of things. The car would not start regardless if there was spark currently as their are issues with the fuel pump connectivity or the pump itself right now anyways. I noticed when replacing the cap and rotor yesterday that the metal on the dizzy itself is kind of rusted, could this be causing the problem?

Also, the car is the 2.8 MPFI engine, if that helps with any possible diagnosis? Thanks again
