Engine: 77' 350 bored 355 Holley carb
Transmission: Turbo 350
Starter Wiring

Have a 92 rs with a 77 350 w/ carb and push button start.

battery alternator and starter

battery checked fine
alternator checked fine
starter checked fine
wire to alt from battery fine and plug to alt fine

(checked at alternator shop)

only other wires are to starter. going to replace them. what wires should be at starter and to where. want to make sure po has everything correct also

Should be 2 terminals on starter, 1 larger, one smaller. Purple wire to smaller one, everything else to larger one (batt pos and all fusible links). This is a stock harness setup - have no idea how the push button starter was wired in.

It should have a small wire going to the spade on the solenoid. Mine was purple in my '90. That's what has power when the key is turned to start so the solenoid links the other posts giving power to starter to turn. Usually the top most post is the one that has the power from the battery ran to it and another one or 2 wires smaller ring connectors that pass the power on to other accessories.

Pretty easy. 1 small wire normally a spade on the spade connector. Small Ring connectors and the battery power line on one post. The 3rd post is only used to run the wire to the starter motor.

also do i need the purple wire if i have the push button start. wires come from it one wire goes to each stud

Yes. Without the purple wire on the spade connection you will never have power to the bottom post that makes the starter work. That's the power wire to trigger the solenoid.

heres what i found

Large stud
one wire to plug on alternator (red)
one wire to plug that feeds into relay on passenger side near firewall
two red wires that go into plug through firewall driver side
one to push button start

Small stud
purple wire to plug through firewall driver side
one to push button start
