carb swap and lost my tach

I swapped out motors from tpi to carb and now my tach does not work. I have a new msd hei distributor and plugged the white wire that was on the tpi coil into the slot on the hei Distributor labeled for tach. This is a 1990 camaro if that makes any difference. Thanks for any input.

Re: carb swap and lost my tach

As far as I know you plug the white wire into the distributor where its marked tach. BUT this will not work on my 90 Iroc, something must have ran thru the comp, and I deleted it. Maybe someone will chime in with the answer.

Tacho feed goes direct from coil or HEI to tacho.
White wire off coil to Instrument cluster in diagram
see

Maybe you screwed up when removing computer wiring.
Find the tacho signal wire ( white ) at the dash plug and meter between that and the connector at HEI to see if you have a circuit.
If not you have a break in the wire somewhere

Someone has scanned all the engine pages and put them online
Should be in the circuit diagrams of your FSM
