Doubling alternator coils and changing voltage regulator?

can my alternator be re-manufactured to get more amperage? I'm not putting a huge system in , but 1200 watts on a baby alternator seems kinda squeaky.
Has anybody put a second deep cycle battery in the left side of the trunk under the side panels?

Do i need a blue top? Just a bigger alternator should be enough, right?

Re: Doubling alternator coils and changing voltage regulator?

alternator can be rewound to get more amps, problem
is in order to put heavier winding wire in the stator the
number of turns has to be cut back-reducing output at
low rpm...Also cs130s run hot anyway-it would probably
roast it's diodes.
much better(if possible)would be to upgrade to a larger
"cs144"alternator.Also some '90s ford alternators are
really good too,but that would take some fabbing and
wiring mods to work.

I have a 130 amp ford alternator, and your information was super helpful. Thanks.

The cs144 is a pretty common upgrade for 3rd gens. Do a search for "cs144" here on TGO, and you'll find peoples posts about having done it.
